Come experience Family D.I.R.T, Hume’s first off-road event for the whole family. Bring your toys, RVs, and family members, to the Mojave Desert south of Ridgecrest for an unforgettable weekend of amazing riding, fantastic food, a challenging speaker, prizes, and giveaways. Our camping/riding area has something for everyone, with a wide variety of terrain for all ages and skill levels.

PJ Lewis

After growing up in Northern California, PJ met his wife, Sheri, while earning a degree in Counseling and Bible at Christian Heritage College in El Cajon. Married in 1988, PJ and Sheri have been serving together for over 20 years in the areas of shepherding, teaching, counseling, and discipleship for both youth and adult ministries in the San Diego area, Carson City, Nevada, and Fresno. PJ enjoys playing games, hiking, exploring new places, and especially loves spending time with his wife.

Overview

  • When is it? November 4-6, 2016.
  • How much is it? Ages 0-3 are free, $50 for ages 12 and under, $60 for ages 13-17, $70 for ages 18 and older. Event cost includes meals, snacks, meetings, raffle prizes and a D.I.R.T. T-shirt.
  • When do I have to register by? You can register any time online. There is no cutoff date to register.
  • How old do you have to be to attend? There is no minimum age, but a parent/guardian is required and responsible for any minors under their care at all times.
  • When does it start and end? The event begins with check-in on Friday at 1pm and we’ll shut down on Sunday at 10:00am. However, feel free to come earlier or stay later.
  • How many meals are provided? We will be providing 3 meals and a couple of snack times. Please bring your own food for lunch on the trail on Saturday. You can also ride to Randsburg for a hot meal & milkshakes.
  • Can I bring alcohol? No. This is a non-alcohol event.
  • Will there be prizes? You bet.
  • Will I have a good time? Oh yeah!
  • What should I bring? Your own accommodations, something to ride, tools, riding gear, helmet, goggles, cell phone, clothes, jacket, flash light, toiletries, lawn chair, snacks, something for lunch on Saturday, firewood, fuel, oils, family, your appetite, and a sense of adventure.

Location

  • Where? BLM Ridgecrest/Mojave (map). Located 3.5 hours from Fresno, 2.5 hours Northeast of Los Angeles, and 3.75 hours North of San Diego. A more detailed BLM Ridgecrest Riding Map available at the camp.
  • Where will we be camping? We will be camping in the Prospectors Camp Site located between Searles Rd. and Trona Rd. near the Red Mountain riding area. Directions map. The GPS coordinates are N35.484767 W117.625833.
  • Driving directions:
    • From the North take HWY 99 south to HWY 58 East to HWY 14 North East, take Garlock road to HWY 395, take a right on Searles Station CTF. Follow the signs to our campsite on the right-hand side.
    • From the South take HWY15 to HWY 395, take a right on Searles Station CTF. Follow the signs to our campsite on the right-hand side.
  • Where will we be riding? A map of the Red Mountain Riding Area near Randsburg is coming soon. We will be camping at the bottom left of the BLM Spangler map. See our directions map for how to get to the camp site.
  • What’s the terrain like? There are roads, trails, washes, open desert, single track, and hill climbs.
  • What’s the weather going to be like? We don’t know. However, be prepared for cold evenings and possible blowing sand.

Camping & Riding

  • Do I need to bring my own RV/sleeping accommodations? Yes. You are responsible to provide your own housing.
  • Do I need to reserve a RV spot? You do need to register for the event, but there are no designated spots. Just come out and pick a spot near our meeting and kitchen area.
  • Will there be RV hook-ups? No. We’ll be dry camping in the desert.
  • Will there be port-a-potties? Yes.
  • Can I rough-it in a tent? Yes, but it can get cold and very windy. If the wind kicks up, it can blow your tent over!
  • Do I need to bring my own ride? Yes, we will not be providing any vehicles to use or rent.
  • Is this open to all forms of off-road vehicles? Yes, bring whatever you’ve got. Motorcycles, quads, buggies, and 4x4s.
  • Does my ride need to be registered? Yes, all vehicles must be registered with a current green or red OHV sticker and all quad must have flags.
  • What skill level do I need to have? The area where we will be staying has a huge variety of terrain that will work for beginners to experts.
  • What happens if my vehicle breaks? You are responsible for repairs to your own vehicles. Be prepared and bring tools (or a friend that has tools.)
  • What happens if I get hurt? You are responsible for all risk and liability while you are riding. We suggest riding with a cell phone to be able to dial 911 in case of a medical emergency.
  • What are the rules in the Red Mountain Riding Area? Visit the BLM website for riding rules.
  • Where are the nearest services? There are services nearby in Ridgecrest, Randsburg, and Lancaster.

Registration

    • How do I make sure I get my free DIRT T-Shirt? In order to receive your free D.I.R.T. T-shirt, you must register before October 16, 2016. Registration will still be open after this date, but we cannot guarantee you will get a shirt.
    • What if something comes up and I have to cancel? If you cancel prior to October 12, 2016, all but $10 will be refunded. If you cancel after October 12, 2016, the full amount is forfeited.
